Ray Stein's Mailbox: Yo, Steelers fans: Reader offers subtle reminder that this is central Ohio Sunday,  August 26, 2007 3:49 AM By Ray Stein
THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Ray: Every year it seems you get letters from Steelers fans who think they are entitled to more coverage in The Dispatch. I'm tired of it. These people are not Pittsburgh transplants but Ohio-born fans who hopped on the Pittsburgh bandwagon. Pittsburgh-born fans have too much self-respect to demand more coverage out of the local paper. They might also be illiterate and unable to correspond with you.

These people are no different from the Ohio-bred Michigan fans who embrace the blue and yellow because they don't have the guts to rebel in a more constructive and socially significant way. At least the bottle-fed throngs of Michigan fans aren't idiotic enough to expect more Michigan coverage. Of course, it's likely they are too busy throwing themselves a pity party to send a letter.

If Steelers fans want to throw away their lives rooting for a team too cheap to buy a decal for the other side of its helmet, go ahead. But don't expect the local sports section to coddle you. Wave your dishrag all you want, but nobody around here cares. If you want more Steelers coverage, move to Pittsburgh. But don't come crawling back when the smell becomes too much to bear.
